School of Business, Education and Professional Studies - Early Childhood Education Program
Associate in Arts (AA)
Associate in Applied Science (AAS)
About the Program
The Santa Fe Community College early childhood education program is designed for students planning to work with children from birth to grade three and the families of those children. An associate's degree partially fulfills the New Mexico Public Education Department's competencies for teacher licensure up to third grade and the coursework is designed to transfer to a bachelor's program at a university.
The number of jobs available in early childhood education is expected to increase during the next 10 years as teachers retire and the population grows. Some schools are offering bonuses, higher pay and other incentives to new teachers.
Career Opportunities:
- Preschool teacher
- Public school teaching aide
- Owner or director of a licensed childcare center
- Public school teacher educational specialist
