Business Administration - School of Business and Education
About the Program
If you're interested in the business world and eager to get started, then an associate in arts (AA) or associate in applied science (AAS) degree in Business Administration could be right for you. The Business Administration Program prepares you for a career in management or administration in a private, public or nonprofit organization, from a small, independent business to a major global corporation.
The AA degree in Business Administration is designed as a transfer degree. The courses in the degree program are patterned after the lower-division courses at universities thus providing required general education courses in addition to specific core business and accounting courses. A New Mexico Business Consortium articulation agreement assures transferability of the core business and accounting courses to two and four year institutions of higher learning in New Mexico. Students earning an AA degree in Business Administration degree at Santa Fe Community College can take two additional courses in accounting to earn an AA degree in Accounting.
The AAS degree in Business Administration is designed as a terminal degree - offering students the basic knowledge and skills necessary to earn gainful employment as a manager in sales or retail, a project assistant or office manager, and other career opportunities upon degree completion. Concentration areas in the degree - accounting, business administration, entrepreneurship or a customized focus area allows students to take specific courses in their area of interest.
Both the AA and AAS degrees include coursework in principles of managing, business law, human relations, marketing, economics, accounting, and office technologies.
