Architectural Design - School of Arts, Design, and Media Arts
Associate in Arts (AA) in Architectural Design
A degree meant for transfer to a 4-year architecture program
Certificate in Architectural Design | 33 credit hours (CERT)
Provides the courses necessary for a student to build a design portfolio for use in applying to a 4-year architecture program
If you are interested in building, drawing, solving problems and imagining things that do not yet exist, a career in architectural design may be for you. Courses reflect tasks performed in the workplace and in building construction. You'll practice design, drawing and modeling by hand and digitally as part of learning about design phases of work, design methods, design principles and theories.
The buildings on the SFCC campus itself provide study opportunities, from the Trades and Advanced Technology Building, with its LEED Platinum status, to the Health Sciences building, with its elegant biowall.
You may be interested in the more analytical and technological side of architecture. At SFCC you'll also get courses in building materials research and design and architectural graphics for the construction documents phase of work that supports permitting, cost estimating, building and managing of buildings.
You'll learn to use computer software programs used in design and illustration, including the industry standard AutoCAD drafting software and ArchiCAD, Vector Works and Sketch up "virtual building" software. Multidisciplinary courses will develop your skills in teamwork, problem solving and communication.
