Public Programming - September & October 2011

Public Programming at the Planetarium - 2011

 

Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for preteens and seniors; and free for SFCC students, SFCC employees and planetarium members.


Tickets go on sale at the door 30 minutes before each program. Shows begin promptly; latecomers are not admitted.

15 at 7-8 p.m. - Backyard Astronomy.
Enjoy a live presentation in the planetarium followed by an outdoor viewing of the night sky, if weather permits.
14 at 7-8 p.m. - Echoes of the Night
This program features a selection of Native American stories.
22 at 7-8 p.m.- Ring World
The Cassini-Huygens mission to the planet Saturn and its moon is a joint effort of the NASA, European Space Agency, and Italian Space Agency.

21 at 7-8 p.m. - The Hubble Space Telescope

Hubble’s spectacular visual images make a stunning backdrop throughout the presentation, bringing immediacy and vitality as the narrative reveals the new insights Hubble has inspired in all fields of astronomy from exoplanets to black holes.
29 at 7-8 p.m.- El Universo de Lorca 
An astronomical, journey through Lorca’s characteristic metaphors and symbols related to the sky: the moon, the night, the stars, Venus, the Big Dipper, the Milky Way, Pegasus, and others.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Regular programs are not suitable for children under 5 years old.

13 and 20 at 7-8 p.m.- El Universo de Lorca
An astronomical, journey through Lorca’s characteristic metaphors and symbols related to the sky: the moon, the night, the stars, Venus, the Big Dipper, the Milky Way, Pegasus, and others.  

19 at 7-8 p.m.- The Privileged Planet A rare and finely tuned array of factors makes Earth suitable for a complex life:  An oxygen-rich atmosphere, water, a large moon, and precise location within the solar system. Is this correlation merely a coincidence?
