SANTA FE, NM – Santa Fe Community College in partnership with the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide will host free income tax preparation assistance beginning Friday, January 31. The ninth annual free tax preparation service will be located in the William C. Witter Fitness Education Center at SFCC, 6401 Richards Ave.
Beginning January 31, Tax-Aide will be available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Assistance will be available six days a week through April 15, except when the college is closed (March 15-23 for spring break and April 18-20 for spring holiday).
In addition to providing the location for tax preparation services, 12 SFCC students who were trained specially for the service will be among the 90 volunteers available to assist anyone in filing their taxes.
Last year, the service helped 8,438 taxpayers gain more than $9.74 million in tax refunds. Exceptions for help in preparation may be made if the client has unusually complicated tax circumstances. The service is not available to small business owners who have employees or depreciation.
Tax-Aide District Coordinator Pete Doniger asked that filers wait for all of the tax forms they usually receive before coming in for help. Be sure to bring all of the information and documents you need, including these items:
· All of your tax documents
· A photo ID and Social Security cards for yourself and your children
· A list of expenses if you paid for child care, college or vocational training
· A list of medical expenses
· A list of charity donations
· A blank check to receive a direct deposit into your account of your refund with no fees.
Tax-Aide volunteers will help clients on a first-come, first-served basis.
