Programs For Students
Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe offer a number of programs to people in the community. If you, or someone you know, needs help with literacy and/or learning English, continue reading to find the program of your choice.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
If you are an adult who needs to learn to speak, read and write in English or if you know an adult who cannot speak, read or write English, please call us. Trained tutors are ready to help. These tutors can meet with you at locations and times that are convenient to you.
We offer the following services for learning English:
- English as a second language (ESL) teams - a tutor meets with small groups in a community location
- Neighborhood tutoring groups - tutors meet with extended families and friends in their homes
- Workplace tutoring groups - tutors go to hotels, restaurants, and other workplaces to teach small groups of employees
Basic Literacy Classes
Many adults in New Mexico are low-level readers, or even non-readers. If you are an adult who needs to learn to read better or if you know an adult who cannot read, please call us. Trained tutors are ready to help. These tutors can meet with you at locations and times that are convenient to you.
We offer the following services for learning to read:
- Individual tutoring - a tutor will work directly with you
- Workplace tutoring groups - tutors go to hotels, restaurants, and other workplaces to teach small groups of employees
Sullivan Computer Lab
The Sullivan Learning Lab is a self-paced tutorial computer-learning lab for ESL. The lab is located at the Gallegos Lane Community Center at 1256 Gallegos Lane, and is open Monday through Thursday from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Drop-ins are welcome!
