Environmental Health and Safety Training (OSHA)

Environmental Health and Safety Training

SFCC can provide general or site-specific environmental health and safety training (ES&H, SHE, OSHA) to meet your facility’s compliance needs through our Contract Training Program. Training can be provided at our campus or at your facility.  Training is available in English or Spanish. Classes Available:

OSHA General Industry Standards (30- hr)

The 30 hr General Industry Standards  Course is intended for experienced workers with implementation responsibilities at job facilities. This course introduces workers to OSHA policies, procedures and standards as well as general safety and health principles. The scope and application of OSHA General Industry standards are presented in real job site contexts.  Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive an OSHA General Industry Standards Safety and Health 30-hr Card.

OSHA General Industry Standards (10 hr)

The 10-hr General Industry Standards Course is intended for entry-level participants to provide information on a variety of general industry safety and health hazards. Course topics include Introduction to OSHA, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety,  Materials Handling, Forklift Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Permit-Required Confined Space Entry and Job Hazard Analyses. Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-hr Card.

OSHA Construction Standards (30- hr)

The 30 hr Construction Standards Course is intended for experienced workers with implementation responsibilities on job sites. This course introduces workers to OSHA policies, procedures and standards as well as general construction safety and health principles. The scope and application of OSHA construction standards are presented in real job site contexts.  Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-Hour Card.

OSHA Construction Standards (10- hr)

The 10-hr Construction Standards Course is intended for entry-level participants to provide information on a variety of general construction safety and health hazards. Course topics include Introduction to OSHA, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety, Excavation Safety, Scaffold Safety, Materials Handling, Forklift Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Permit-Required Confined Space Entry and Job Hazard Analyses. Upon successful completion of this course, participants receive an OSHA Construction Safety and Health 10-hr Card.

Certified Renovator, Initial (8- hr):

This course is required for any person who disturbs lead-based paint in target housing or child occupied facilities per the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule. This course meets the individual training requirements of the EPA RRP regulations for Certified Renovators. (8 hours).

Certified Renovator, Refresher (4- hr):

Certified Renovators must receive additional training every 5 years to remain current in RRP requirements and job skills.

Hazardous Waste Site Worker (HAZWOPER) (40-hr)

OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.120 standard requires workers exposed to hazardous substances receive a minimum of 40 hours of training in specified topics associated with conditions on cleanup or hazardous waste sites. This course includes lecture and hands on exercises in proper health and safety procedures and personal protection during work operations at hazardous waste sites. Topics include hazard identification and control, safety planning, site control, personal protective equipment (Level A, B, C & D), site monitoring, emergency and incident response operations, and decontamination processes.

HAZWOPER Refresher (8 hr)

29 CFR 1910,120 requires 8 hrs of annual training to remain current in regulatory requirements and safety skills.

About Janet Kerley, Instructor:

Janet Kerley has been an OSHA Authorized Instructor for Construction and General Industry Standards since 1989. She served as Primary Liaison for the Academy of Certified Hazardous Material Managers to the ANSI Committee Z490 which developed the ANSI Standard 'Accepted Criteria for Safety, Health and Environmental Training (ANSI Z490.1-2009). Janet is also the Program Director and Instructor for SFCC's EPA Certified Lead Training Program.
