SFCC Governing Board Election 2013 Results

SFCC welcomes new board members Martha Romero and Kathy Keith
The SFCC Governing Board Election was held on Tuesday, March 5. The two seats vacated by Carole Brito and Bruce Besser were filled by Martha Gandert Romero in position 3, and Kathy Keith in position 5.  Read article in the New Mexican.

Martha Romero, position #3

Martha RomeroDr. Martha Romero was the Founding Director of the Community College Leadership Development Initiatives (CCLDI) at Claremont Graduate University. As a faculty member, Dr. Romero taught graduate seminars in organizational development at the University of Colorado and in the Community College Leadership program at the University of New Mexico and at the Claremont Graduate University. She served as Vice President for Instruction at Pikes Peak Community College, and as President/Superintendent of the Siskiyous Joint Community College District consisting of two small, rural community college campuses in northern California.

At the policy level, Dr. Romero has been a member of the senior management team responsible for policy analysis and development for Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). She also served as Academic Affairs Officer on the Colorado Commission on Higher Education, a state coordinating board with some governance authority; and the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, D.C., as a federal policy intern for what later became the dean in residence program. She consulted with the Good Work Project at the Drucker/Ito School of Business at Claremont Graduate University, and the New Mexico Association for Community Colleges. She is currently working with the Achieving the Dream Lumina Foundation Project as a coach and as faculty for their Trustee Training Seminar.

Dr. Romero has authored many policy reports, journal articles and book chapters on leadership, civility on college campuses, and the use of research in decision-making.

Kathy Keith, position #5

Kathy Keith Kathy Keith serves as the Executive Director of the Regional Development Corporation, a regional economic development organization. She has more than 20 years of experience in public policy, including working in leadership positions in the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Department of Energy and the New Mexico Economic Development Department. She has worked across the nation as a consultant assisting states and communities in designing and implementing cutting-edge workforce development projects.

Locally, she serves on the Santa Fe Business and Quality of Life Committee and is immediate past President of the Tesuque Elementary PTA. Keith holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science from Texas Tech University.
